life update: first birthday off socials & going to grad school?
last sunday, i turned 24!!! and there was a snowstorm!! and sam came to visit!
this was my first birthday being off-Instagram (cause who pays attention to fb anymore) and, man... a humbling experience. but what a weird standard that was set for those who grew up with social media that everyone you've ever met wishes you a happy birthday?
the best parts of my birthday were, in no particular order:
- going to see the Joyce Wieland retrospective with sam (and taking a small bit of an edible before). i was so eyes OPEN, heart OPEN. sam wrote a really good blog about it here (where she is smart, and left out the part where i looked at the paintings and said "these are really VIBRATING for me").
- noah cooking sam and i a super yummy dinner.
- running with noah and sam like little kids through a foot of snow to get to and from yummy breakfast.
- seeing my friends at my little birthday party where i drank manhattans all evening.
- feeling very loved when laura and zahur baked me a cake on my birthday eve and gifted me vegan chocolate & soap & the loveliest card.
- receiving a huge bouquet from my parents.
i'm probably forgetting something, but ... :)
i have gotten into my Master's in Creative Writing at [REDACTED] University, and, though [REDACTED] University is full of fascist administration who arrest their own students, I will probably (almost certainly) attend. all universities seem to be run by fascists these days.
and so the questions, "Why do a Master's in Creative Writing?" is answered by my notice of acceptance.
saskia sent me pictures of scotland, and i am thinking of the cows and the mountains.
abolish rent!
i want to read this book.
i am waiting for spring.
